Operations Showcase at Salvagnini
On May 29th, 2024, Salvagnini welcomed over 30 guests to their factory in Hamilton, OH, for the EACC's first Operations Showcase. On their US location's 40th anniversary, attendees experienced a unique behind-the-scenes view of the Italian machinery manufacturer's products, culture, history and mission.
Because, even though Salvagnini has the largest panel-making machinery base in the world, they are about so much more than "just making machinery".
In fact, when you listen to CEO Andrea Scarpari speak, Salvagnini is about automation and IoT - they deliver smart automated parts-making systems, that increase OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency) AND optimize labor resource allocation and satisfaction.
OEE = Quality x Performance X Availability
- Quality: Sensors are used to measure in real time and adapt settings as needed (temperature, force, etc.).
- Performance: Process simulations are created and visualized to determine most efficient (optimum) sequencing.
- Availability: Data collection and analysis allows for the identification of stress points in the system and prediction of failures, allowing for planned maintenance vs reaction to breakdown.
Meanwhile, the people who used to have to manually load the raw materials, unload the parts and manually setup and run the machines, can now focus on more creative, fulfilling and value-add tasks.
And Salvagnini's focus on people doesn't stop there. As an Italian company, sustainability doesn't just refer to the environment. As we learned at TRANSFORM 2023, sustainability is about people and profit as well as the planet. Their "Campus" building is a case in point.
Built in 2020 as an add-on to their traditional factory, The Campus' design is based on 4 pillars: Wood, Concrete, Steel and Natural Light. As described by BHDP Architecture in their thought leadership article, bringing esthetics and function together, results in employee health, satisfaction and attraction.
Salvagnini's story and hospitality were incredibly insightful, enriching and engaging, resulting in a high-level experience for all in attendance.
